From Stockholm labs to Indian innovation

The Genesis of Pratham

Pratham V2V was conceived in Sweden. "Pratham" means "first" in Hindi, akin to Protium - Hydrogen's elementary isotope with Atomic Number 1, while "V2V" stands for "Vatten till Vätgas" (Water to Hydrogen in Swedish).

The idea took shape at the confluence of two pressing global issues: water scarcity and the shift to clean energy. While conducting research at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology on the world’s first steel plant to use green hydrogen for pre-rolling heating, Ekansh pinpointed a key deficiency in the developing hydrogen economy:

"In water-scarce regions with tremendous solar potential like Rajasthan, conventional hydrogen production demands precious fresh water. What if we could turn this challenge into an opportunity by leveraging wastewater instead?" — Ekansh Sharma, Founder

This insight led to Pratham's core innovation: a modular solution producing the purest water, hydrogen, and oxygen from waste streams. By bootstrapping these complementary technologies, we're kickstarting the hydrogen economy in India in alignment with the National Green Hydrogen Mission.

As Pratham's technical foundation took shape, another critical challenge emerged: how to verify, certify, and track hydrogen production in a transparent, reliable way? The answer was HyGOAT – Hydrogen Guarantee of Origin, Accountability & Transparency.
